From Sales Deck Slides to Vertical Teach Beats

Repurpose pitch decks into vertical explainers: one slide ≠ one beat—extract one teach intent, rewrite proof, and rebuild a board instead of filming slides.

From Sales Deck Slides to Vertical Teach Beats

From Sales Deck Slides to Vertical Teach Beats

Repurpose pitch decks into stand-alone vertical explainers by extracting one teach intent—not by filming slides as a slideshow.

Founders and sales-enablement marketers sit on slide libraries packed with diagrams, proof, and messaging. Vertical feeds punish that density. Related repurposing patterns exist for blogs and carousels (blog posts to storyboarded Reels, LinkedIn carousel to vertical); decks need their own rules because slides are built for a presenter.

One slide ≠ one beat

Slides assume a speaker. Reels assume mute-first autonomy. Mapping 1:1 creates:

  • Text walls no one can read at 9:16
  • Orphan charts without spoken context
  • Agenda slides that waste the hook
  • Multi-idea dumps that destroy completion

Instead: one deck section → candidate intents → one Reel per intent.

Extract one teach intent

Write the Reel promise as a sentence a stranger could understand without the meeting:

  • Bad: “Platform overview”
  • Good: “How routing rules stop double-assign”

Intent tests:

  1. Can it be taught in ≤60s with 2–4 steps?
  2. Does a caption-only version still make sense?
  3. Would a non-buyer still learn something useful?
  4. Is this different from an existing FAQ teach?

If the deck’s value is objection handling for late-stage buyers, keep it a deck. Vertical teach is for transferable rules.

What to rewrite as on-screen proof vs drop

Rewrite as on-screen proof

  • One metric tied to a named method
  • A simplified before/after of the same UI family
  • A single customer permissioned logo with a method caption

Drop from the Reel

  • Multi-series charts
  • Dense comparison matrices
  • Internal roadmap politics
  • Speaker notes jokes
  • “Ask us about…” filler

Case-study teaches that stay educational follow method-before-proof (case-study teach Reels once live—or apply the same spine here). Soft CTAs only at the end (soft CTAs).

Rebuild a board—do not film the slideshow

Anti-pattern: screen-record the deck advance while VO reads speaker notes. That is a webinar clip in denial.

Board rebuild steps:

  1. List intents from the deck
  2. Pick one
  3. Draft beat list with mute captions
  4. Choose visuals (UI crop, metaphor, host)—not full slide screenshots
  5. Mark still vs motion
  6. Approve board; then generate

When you must show a diagram, redraw it for vertical safe zones—do not letterbox a 16:9 slide. Aspect-ratio planning helps if you also need a feed cut (one intent, three aspect ratios).

Webinar-to-vertical pipelines face the same discipline (from one webinar to a week of verticals): extract teaches, do not compress the hour.

Sales-enablement handoff

  • Marketing owns the teach Reel intent list
  • Sales keeps the full deck for calls
  • Shared proof permissions and claim language
  • CRM cadence can feature the Reel as education, not as a pitch leave-behind (CRM funnel to weekly cadence)

Worked extraction from a fictional 12-slide pitch

Slides: agenda, problem, market, solution, how it works (3 steps), architecture, security, logos, case metric, pricing, team, next steps.

Vertical teach candidates:

  1. Problem → 3-step how it works (best first Reel)
  2. Security rule in one digestible beat cluster (second)
  3. Case metric as method-proof teach (third)

Leave market, architecture depth, pricing, team in the deck.

Screenshot policy

  • Never paste full widescreen slides into 9:16 with tiny type
  • Recrop one diagram node as a vertical card
  • Prefer redrawn flat graphics aligned to brand locks
  • If a slide is sacred for sales, link it after the Reel—do not make the Reel a trailer for reading slides

Freelancer handoffs benefit from a clear pack spec when agencies convert decks (freelancer storyboard pack).

Claims and proof when decks exaggerate

Sales slides sometimes stretch. Vertical teach inherits legal risk. Strip unverifiable superlatives before boarding. Align proof with the same permissions sales already uses—or cut the proof beat.

Soft production tip

Rebuild a board from the deck—do not film slides as a slideshow. Storyboard-first tools like Scro force the rebuild: beats and captions come first, generative frames second.

Checklist

  • One intent selected; others queued
  • No 1:1 slide mapping
  • Mute captions drafted before visuals
  • Proof simplified and permissioned
  • Diagrams redrawn for 9:16 or cut
  • Soft CTA only—or none

Decks persuade in rooms. Teach Reels persuade by teaching in feeds. Convert the rule, not the rectangle.
