From One Webinar to a Week of Vertical Explainers
Repurpose a webinar into daily vertical teaches by extracting 5–7 micro-intents and storyboarding each as a standalone Reel—not by chopping the long recording into awkward vertical crops. Educators and SaaS teams sitting on webinar files need an extraction workflow, not a crop tool.
A webinar is a multi-intent asset. A Reel is a single-intent asset. The conversion is editorial.
Do not “cut the webinar”
Bad repurposing:
- Vertical crop of a talking head for 58 seconds
- Highlight reels with no teach promise
- Clips that require the previous clip to make sense
Good repurposing:
- New boards that stand alone for cold viewers
- Hooks written for feed context
- Visuals rebuilt for 9:16 safe zones
Aspect ratio must be chosen on purpose (9:16 vs 16:9 vs 1:1).
Extract 5–7 micro-intents
Skim the webinar outline or transcript and list viewer intents as verbs:
| Webinar section | Micro-intent | Standalone Reel title seed |
|---|---|---|
| Intro story | Skip or compress | — |
| Myth #1 | Bust one myth | “X is not Y” |
| Feature walkthrough | Teach one mechanism | “How Z routes…” |
| Objection block | Answer one fear | “What if setup takes weeks?” |
| Case story | One proof pattern | “Before/after ops checklist” |
| Q&A | Top 2 questions only | FAQ-style clips |
| CTA | One next step | Pilot checklist |
Cap at seven for a week of daily posts. More intents → next week’s batch (batching weekly teach content). FAQ-heavy Q&As map cleanly to short clips (FAQ → five explainers).
Board each intent as a new Reel
For every micro-intent:
- Write a one-sentence promise
- Draft a under-3s hook (SaaS hook patterns)
- Fill scene cards (notes / narration / style)
- Approve stills
- Render
Use course-to-clip checklists if the webinar was curriculum-like (course outline to tutorial clips). Rough ideas still need teach beats before style (rough idea → explainer).
What you can reuse from the webinar
| Asset | Reuse? |
|---|---|
| Diagrams / slides (simplified) | Yes, redrawn for vertical |
| Exact slide dumps | No — too dense |
| Quotes / definitions | Yes, as on-screen lines |
| Full talk track | No — rewrite for short VO |
| Audience questions | Yes, as hooks |
| B-roll of speaker | Optional; not required for teach Reels |
One-week calendar example
| Day | Micro-intent | Length |
|---|---|---|
| Mon | Myth-bust | 30s |
| Tue | Mechanism | 45s |
| Wed | Objection | 45s |
| Thu | Mini proof | 30s |
| Fri | FAQ #1 | 30s |
| Sat | FAQ #2 | 30s |
| Sun | CTA / recap loop | 30s |
Measure whether clips taught—not only whether they got views (learning measurement).
Transcript mining tips
- Highlight every audience question—those are hook gold
- Mark every “the reason is…” sentence as a mechanism candidate
- Delete war stories that do not teach a transferable rule
- Capture definitions into a glossary for on-screen text
If you lack a transcript, skim chapter markers and slide titles first; only rewatch high-value sections.
Standalone test
For each drafted Reel, ask a teammate who missed the webinar:
- What is the promise?
- What should I do next?
- What did you not understand?
If (1) fails, rewrite hook/promise. If (3) points at missing webinar context, you accidentally made a sequel clip—rebuild as standalone.
Asset pipeline for the week
Monday: intent extraction + hooks Tuesday: boards + still approvals Wednesday–Thursday: renders Friday: captions + scheduling Buffer: one spare FAQ clip
This beats daily panic filming. Webinar repurposing is an editorial factory, not a highlight reel night.
Quality bar before scheduling
Do not schedule a clip that fails silent comic-strip QA. If a stranger cannot narrate the promise from stills alone, fix the board. Webinar energy on the original call does not transfer through a muddy vertical crop.
Archival labeling
Store each Reel with:
- Source webinar ID / date
- Micro-intent ID
- Board version
- Locale
Six months later you will thank yourself when updating product claims without hunting Drive folders.
Field note 1
When this workflow feels slow, remember regenerating motion for unclear intent is slower. Spend the minutes on the board: nouns, timing, and approval owners. The publish cadence stays weekly only if the control documents stay boring and current.

Soft tool note
Whatever stack you use, board each micro-intent before generating clips so webinar repurposing becomes a week of vertical teaches—not a crop job. Platforms such as Scro are built around that storyboard-first gate; the extraction table works in a spreadsheet beside your recording archive.
