Reel Length for a Tutorial or a Trend
A trend reel is usually under 15 seconds. A tutorial reel can run longer if every few seconds shows the next step.

Choose reel length by the job. A trend is a gesture, often under 15 seconds, because the viewer already knows the format and is waiting for your version. A tutorial is a sequence. It can pass 30 seconds, even a minute, if each step is visible and none of them repeat the greeting.
Trends do not explain themselves
If you have to teach the meme, you are late, and the reel is too long. Do your version of the format and get out. The explanation can be a separate tutorial.
Tutorials change the picture
Every few seconds, the hands or the diagram should be somewhere new. A talking explanation over one locked shot is a story you could have written. Cut it into steps or cut it shorter.
Do not borrow the other length
Padding a trend to "add value" loses the people who came for the gesture. Compressing a five-step tutorial into nine seconds loses the step. Pick one job.
A worked example
Trend: a loading-bar outfit change, twelve seconds, no narration. Tutorial, posted the next day: "How the collar is actually pressed," four steps, forty seconds, each step a new close-up.
Before you post
- You named the job before you timed it.
- A trend is not explaining itself.
- A tutorial changes the picture at every step.
Where Scro fits
Scro can storyboard either job. A short explainer for the trend, a stepped explainer for the tutorial. Approve the stills so each step is one picture, then export 9:16.
Match the length to the job. Finished samples are on the examples page.
