Talking-Head Captions in Two Languages

Two-language captions work when one language is spoken and the other is a short line, not a second full script.

Talking-Head Captions in Two Languages

Talking-head captions in two languages should not be two transcripts fighting for the frame. Speak one language. Put that language on screen in short lines. If you add a second language, keep it to the title or a single gloss, not a duplicate paragraph. A phone cannot hold both scripts.

Speech leads

The spoken language is the account's language. Captions follow it word for word. A Mandarin caption on Cantonese speech, or the reverse, makes both feel wrong.

One extra line at most

A short English title on a Cantonese reel can name the offer. A full English translation under every line covers the face and still is not read.

Fonts that can hold both

If one line mixes Chinese and English, the font has to draw both. A font that drops the Chinese is a broken caption, not a style.

A worked example

Spoken Cantonese, captions in Cantonese, one English title: "Last wash." No second transcript. The host's mouth and the line refer to the same offer.

Before you post

  • Captions match the spoken language.
  • The second language is one line or absent.
  • The face is still visible.

Where Scro fits

Scro captions the voice in 13 styles, with fonts that can carry Chinese and English on a line. Speak one language, approve the still, export 9:16.

Caption the spoken line. Finished samples are on the examples page.
