Skip Teal and Orange on a Host

Teal shadows and orange skin are a movie grade. On a talking host they make the room look graded instead of real.

Skip Teal and Orange on a Host

Skip teal and orange on a talking host. That grade was a movie look: shadows pushed cyan, skin pushed amber. In a kitchen or an office it reads as a filter, and filters read as generated. Let the wall be the color it is. Let the skin be skin. If you want warmth, use the actual sun, not a split grade.

Name the room color

"White wall, wood table, daylight" keeps the model honest. "Teal and orange, cinematic color grade" repaints every surface. Cinema is a camera choice. It is not a pair of complementary colors.

Skin is not the orange channel

If the face, the orange, and the wood are the same hue, the grade ate the person. A warm practical lamp can warm one side. It should not stain the whites of the eyes.

Match the next still

A teal frame next to a daylight frame looks like two accounts. Pick natural color and keep it for the week, including Life photos of the same host.

A worked example

Office, grey wall, window. No cyan shadow, no amber face. The still matches a photo you could have taken there. The graded pass is not posted.

Check the still

  • Shadows are not cyan.
  • Eyes are not stained orange.
  • The next still uses the same color.

Where Scro fits

Approve that natural still in Scro. The talking clip should inherit it. Captions sit on top of the picture. They are not a reason to crush the color so the words pop.

Leave the room its own color. Finished samples are on the examples page.
