Night Interior with a Real Lamp
A night interior needs one practical lamp that actually lights the face. Darkness everywhere else is not a second light.

A night interior looks real when the lamp you can see is the lamp that lights the face. The near cheek is warm, the far cheek falls into the room, and the corners go dark. A face that is evenly exposed in a "dark" room was lit by a softbox you forgot to mention. Show the lamp. Let it do the work. Leave the rest of the room alone.

The source is in frame or just out
A shade, a bulb, a monitor. If you cannot point to it, the light is cheating. "Moody night, cinematic" without a fixture is how faces become floating.
Falloff is the point
The wall behind should be darker than the face. If the whole room is the same brightness, it is daytime with the colors crushed. Ask for the background to fall off.
Keep the color on one side
Warm lamp, cooler shadow. Not orange skin and teal walls unless you are deliberately making a music video. A host at a desk is the lamp and the dark.
A worked example
Desk lamp camera-left, face lit from that side, bookshelf behind almost dark. No second fill. The still is approved for a short update.
Check the still
- You can point to the lamp.
- The background is darker than the face.
- The far cheek falls off.
Where Scro fits
Approve this still in Scro before the talk. The mouth should move in this light, not in a brighter one the clip invents. Trim the silence and export 9:16.
Light the face with the lamp you showed. Finished samples are on the examples page.
